ITM Timber Merchants imports timber from all over the world. Thomas Marktl founded the company in 1997 after having a successful furniture manufacturing company with 25 employees for nearly twenty years. Next year ITM Timber Merchants will celebrate their 15 years anniversary in Cape Town.
Today the staff at ITM Timber Merchants numbers twelve employees. We have a sophisticated computer system and network that enables us to monitor our stock and sales in real time.
Our company - situated near Cape Town - works from our own warehouse with offices and has a fleet of three trucks and three delivery vehicles. We are able to supply timber within 24 hours to any destination in the Western Cape.
Should a consulting about the right type of wood be required we will be glad to assist in that matter.
Out of Cape Town we are agents for and represent major timber companies around the world.
Northwest Hardwoods from the US is a big supplier of timber like Alder, Cherry and Maple. Most of their timber is pre-sanded and graded which enables quicker production by the end-consumer. Other suppliers are from North America, Brazil, Far East and Europe.
Further we stock 2 layer softwood spruce boards 5m x 1.2m, KVH beams for roof construction and Tung & Groove boards all in spruce also beams called cants, 6m length in solid European oak.
Other products are veneered boards in different species and also loose veneered sheets for any application. We are stockist of Egger boards from Europe This company has 6,000 employees and is a leader in melamine products.
Beech, our other big product line, is imported from Germany and Austria. We were the first to introduce Pollmeier Beech (all sanded) in Cape Town 13 years ago, which is now used in all furniture and kitchen manufacturing industries.
Other imports are Larch from Siberia, pine from Chile and hornbeam from Romania – another first by ITM in Cape Town.
We also sell African Mahogany, Wawa and Bubinga from Cameroon, Cambara from Brazil and Mahogany as well as outside decking in Balau from the Far East.
And last but not least acrylic panels in highest European quality are the latest of all products of our comprehensive range.
Internationally, we source wood only from companies that adhere to strictly controlled forestry policies and which are certified for highest business standards. Most of our suppliers are FSC certificated. This gives us a very good feeling about all products of our range.
Architects, carpenters and woodworkers in Cape Town and all over Southern Africa benefit from our sophisticated supplier and stock trading system as well as from our excellent network capabilities.
We also sell full containers directly from Cape Town to clients all over South Africa and Namibia, which is included in our sales market as well.
